And where are you rooting into? 

Juurimatka is an intimate, participatory performance that invites audiences to join a small caravan on a shared journey of rooting. One can root into a new or familiar place, a life situation, the bodily experience, into own stories, or into time and life around. Rooting is listening to stories and experiences, making active choices, lingering, dancing, singing – and weaving time together. It is also about decisions: which story do I want to continue, and what can I let go of?

Juurimatka was created in a small group as a community art work, with each performer bringing their own roots into a shared rhizome. The collective process explored the feeling of rooting through dance improvisation, autobiographical writing, songwriting, and the creation of soundscapes. From this process, a journey has emerged, and audiences are warmly welcomed as fellow travellers — to carry the rooting further and to meet other rooters.
